There are many website hosting services. I'm lucky to have started with Bluehost. Many websites I publish are hosted on Bluehost. I also use HostGator for other websites.

When I started building websites, I had no idea what I was doing. I just wrote and wrote and wrote. As time went on, I discovered techniques to improve my SEO, conversion, and website design.

I clearly remember having two websites with around 50-60 pages of content that I had been writing for months. Then I decided I wanted a different domain name for one of my sites. My problem was that I had no idea how to migrate a website to a new domain.


I had nowhere to go except my web hosting service which was and is Bluehost. I called them, was put on hold for about 10 seconds, and was politely introduced to a technical support representative. I explained my situation. She replied with "no problem" and asked if I had about 20 minutes to perform the surgery. I had all the time in the world if you could help me.


This Bluehost customer service rep took the reins and had my entire website migrated to my new domain name within 20 minutes with no problems.

I did stupid technical things with my websites while learning how to create websites. One day, I absent-mindedly reinstalled WordPress on an established website with a lot of content. When you reinstall WordPress on a site, you lose the entire site. This is what happened to me. Months of effort disappeared in seconds.


I decided to call Bluehost to see what could be done. Fortunately, Bluehost had automatically backed up that site about a week ago. Long story short, Bluehost's kind of tech support person was able to recover the entire site that I had lost. This process took about 50 minutes (I was told not to rely on Bluehost for an up-to-date backup - but in this case they helped me tremendously).

Not all hosting companies are the same when it comes to customer support. I know this because before signing up with Bluehost, I had registered a few domain names with another very popular hosting service. In website hosting, one of the goals is to get customers to register domain names with their service, because there is a high probability that the customer will then open a hosting account. at their home.


But this old hosting service completely let me down in two ways. First, I needed a little help managing my domain names registered with their service. I called them and was on hold for 20 minutes. It was a real burden.


Second, their user interface was quite complicated. In fact, I never knew what to do. The moment I called this hosting service for help with my domain names registered with them, I was looking for a hosting company to open an account to host my websites. Frustrated with the suspension and poorly designed UI, I started looking for other hosting services.


I read a blog post from a blogger who seemed to know things about him. He hasn't looked into all the features Bluehost offers (after all, most hosting services offer pretty much the same features). Instead, this blogger went on and on about how Bluehost's customer service was so great. She particularly noted that she rarely waits more than a minute for telephone support.


I was pretty much sold out at that point. I did other research and found that WordPress recommends Bluehost for hosting WordPress websites and blogs. He did - I was sold - but went for a test call to Bluehost about their customer service.


I called their sales department and was on hold for no more than a few seconds. I asked a few questions; they answered my questions politely. I signed up for Bluehost that day.


Since then, I have called Bluehost many times for help. If they can help, they roll up their sleeves, dig into my account and help. Also, I often take advantage of their live chat support, which often resolves minor issues or questions I have quickly. Ultimately, customer support has a positive attitude and is well-staffed to provide prompt service and support.
